THE POLITICAL STRUCTURE OF THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY

WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE?

Using “Democrat” in the name of any party or group requires being chartered by the Democratic Party.

Villages Democratic Club

A social group of Villagers wanting to be comfortable and secure in their right to think and act progressively. Because the Villages is a private retirement community, membership in this and other clubs is restricted to Villages residents and an I.D. card is required to attend meetings in Villages facilities. There are other, smaller Democratic clubs in Greater Sumter County.

Sumter County Democratic Executive Committee (SCDEC)

The local branch of the Florida Democratic Party, the SCDEC represents Sumter County Democrats. The SCDEC focuses on electing Democrats and getting out the vote during elections. It also charters the Democratic clubs in Sumter County. The office is located at 300 S. Main Street (off of US 301 in the Sav-A-Lot Shopping Center) in Wildwood.

Florida Democratic Party (FDP)

The Florida Democratic Party strives to elect officials who believe in effective and efficient government that prioritizes quality education, affordable health care, and an economy in which anyone who works hard can succeed. Priorities also include protecting veterans, our environment, voting rights, civil rights, women and families; immigration reform, prison reform, government accountability, and preventing gun violence

                                                   Democratic National Committee (DNC)

The Democratic National Committee is the formal governing body for the United States Democratic Party. The committee coordinates strategy to support Democratic Party candidates throughout the country for local, state and national office. It organizes the Democratic National Convention held every four years to nominate and confirm a candidate for president, and to formulate the party platform. While it provides support for party candidates, it does not have direct authority over elected officials.
